I've been playing in the local antique stores again to satisfy my RAD (Razor Acquisition Disorder). I've obtained some new and interesting things.
A Sta-Fast shaving brush, roughly 2"W x 5"L. The handle is cracked, but I loved the bristles (I've never seen a brush done like that before). It's really firm, yet soft.
A 1965 Gillette Tech travel razor in a compact-style case with ten Wilkinson blades.
An unknown older GEM razor with case. Case has new and used razor blade storage, and it had two used GEM single edge blades with it.
Gillette Thin razor blades from 1938, the first year of their production. I thought I only got two blades (one per wrapper), but I found that the opened one had two blades in it. I will leave the unopened wrapper sealed.
A 25 count box of Gold Tone blades. Upon examination, I found that the box had a built-in blade vault and it had 16 of the 25 original blades, untouched in their wrappers. The lady at the antique store took 20% off of this because of the missing blades (she thought it had all 25).
I got a box of Angeles blades, and much to my suprise there were 10 blades from 4 manufacturers in the box!!! The blades are: Angeles, City, Burma Shave, and Nox-All.
I got a box of Honor blades, but unfortunately there were no Honor blades in the box. There were, however, no less than 35 different blades from 8 different manufacturers!!! The blades shown are: Gillette (barrel style blade), Rubie, RIO, Gillette (unknown type w/amber lacquer on it), MAC, Molle, Gillette (unknown type w/blue lacquer on it), Schaeffer, P and S Blue Ribbon, Smoothedge (barrel style), Win-U, and Gillette (unknown type w/dark blue lacquer and light blue printing on it).
Close-ups of the boxes (By the way, did I mention I only paid $5.00 total for both boxes and their contents?)

Quite the gold mine there. I am constantly amazed that you can still find stuff like that that has never been used, much less even opened. _________________ Smith: Why, Why Mr Anderson? Why do you persist?

You don't come across it that often, but you dang sure better snatch it up when you find it. _________________ - Rich G.

Your memories? Or the memories of the previous owners? |

I've been having fun with eBay again. It's amazing what you can acquire with a little opportunistic shopping...
I got a Gillette Blue Tip and a Red Tip, both from 1955 (the only year that they made both models - that makes them extra special in my book!). I've had 'em for a couple of weeks; I just haven't taken the pics until tonight.
For the straight razor crowd, I got this nifty little razor:
It is a Parker SR2 razor designed for the Middle Eastern barbershop market. "Howard1616" on eBay has 6 more of them at $12 apiece, brand new in the box. I like it because A) I didn't have any shaving gear from that part of the world, B) it cost half what the Dovo Shavette does, and C) it takes half DE blades without the use of an adapter (unlike the Dovo). _________________ - Rich G.

The nice thing is that the Parker is made of stainless steel with a plastic handle, like most economy U.S. straight razors. Therefore, even though it takes half DE blades, its feel is nearly indistinguishable from the real thing because they balance and handle the same way. _________________ - Rich G.
