Hi Brothers,
I've been bald for a full seven days now.
Being retired from the Army, I had really short hair for years, an 1/8" to be exact, and male pattern baldness. I think the only good look for my head was the really short hair. So I kept it when I retired.
I decided to try the bald look and it works for me. I have a head that looks good bald. My question right now, as I am sure i wll have more, is this:
I'm Caucasian and when I shave my head I still have this ring around the sides and back of my head that is really really white. You can tell I just started to shave my head. how long will it take to get rid of this and for the whole head to be the same color or shade? I've been going with the grain and do a final against the grain to get it smooth.
Is there anything I can do to help make my head all the same color?

Hi Greg! Welcome aboard!
Some time outside or a couple trips to a tanning booth should fix you right up. I don't think it would take more than a week or two to even up your skin tone, with a little effort.
I wouldn't be concerned. The public, generally speaking, is typically not that observant and most folks won't notice. Those who do notice will probably not give it more than a moment's thought.
Unless you have a hot date or a job interview, I'd just get some sun and wait for it to even up of its own accord. _________________ - Rich G.

Welcome Greg!
I agree with Rich, the skin colour will even out on its own in no time. _________________ Growing old is compulsory. Growing up is entirely optional. |

Sorry, Greg, I didn't mean to be a buzzkill.
I'm just not a fan of the "instant fixes" out there such as spray tanning. I was reluctant to even suggest a tanning booth, as I don't care for them either. _________________ - Rich G.

Rich,
I did not take it as a buzz kill. I just thought if there was something out to help blend it all together, such as a cream, you folks would know. I just posted the question in case I was doing something wrong that may have caused the difference in color, making the shaved area stand out.
If that is the normal course of things I am fine with it.

I agree, it just takes a little time. Hard to say exactly when. I think when we do it for the first time, because WE are so new to the look, things like that jump out at us. _________________

| Some patience is in order, Greg. No need to worry. Time and some sun should even the color out. |

| Your scalp has been in a moist, oiley and mostly dark environment most of your life so it will take some time for your scalp to get used to its new environment. |

Hi Greg,
Welcome to the forum.
I agree with the other guys. It will all work out in time.
I have been shaving for 3 years and had the same problem. No one will probably even notice.
Don't forget to use sun screen if you are out in the sun a lot.
Thanks for your service.
I am a VIetnam Vet myself and just returned from a reunion with a group of fellow Vietnam Vets from my unit. We had a blast. Some of them I hadn't seen for 42 years.
Take care and welcome.

THanks Irena. It was great to reconnect with some good friends after so many years! 41 to be exact. These friends were like family while we were all stationed together in Vietnam.
Take care.
