On my face I typically make two 3 passes:
WTG, ATG, XTG
If I'm in a hurry or don't want to mess with a third pass I'll do:
WTG, XTG
For my head I go front to back then back to front and then hit all missed patches, followed up with a standard razor for touch-ups around the ear, although I'm working on doing this with the Merkur DE.
Always re-lathering between passes, of course.
What is your method?
XTG? Across the grain.
ATG? Against the grain.
WTG? With the grain.

| I usually go against the grain a couple of times as a matter of course but If I miss a day or two, I make the first pass with the grain then against the grain after relathering if I'm using the headblade but my first pass is always across the grain first if I'm using my Murker slant then against the grain on the second pass. |

I go wtg on my head then atg. I always have gone wtg on my face. I have never gone in different directions like sbs or all four ways. What is the reasoning with that way? Do you get a closer shave?

It doesn't give me a closer shave but is less abusive to the blade by taking off less hair initially then the final against the grain pass is like dusting off the nubs instead of cutting through a forest. With the headblade I don't need to do it that way but I usually have to with the de, however, the de gives me a closer shave but is more time consuming. |

I go from front (ATG) to back (WTG) in one smooth pass.

I use gillette double blade disposable razor, i then wet head, put some baby oil on and then shave cream, Shave head then hop under a hot shower and finish off with running razor all over head again . And i get a smooth shave every time..
I shave from back to the front, but then on crown must go all differant directions. I usually do about 3 passes, But i run my hand over and then shave at the rough bits.
As i shave i use other hand to pull the scalp tight and found that i geta close smooth shave |
