If you have any interest in participating in St. Baldricks headshaving events, check out their website and you can locate an event near you:

http://www.stbaldricks.org/#

Funds raised through St. Baldrick's events are helping some of the world's finest researchers find cures for childhood cancer.

St. Baldrick's is a great organization, it would be awesome if we could put something together!

I'd be willing to donate my time if you ever decide to do something down this way (Rochester area).

This event is heavily supported in my area by firefighters and policemen. It is a great cause and can be a lot of fun while doing some good.

Funny you should bump the thread... I learned of St. Baldrick's through the HeadBlade site about a month ago and have been talking to my pals about putting something together. Rockford has only ever had one St. Baldrick's event, and it was semi-private and only 4 people got shaved.

I want to do something larger than that. Smile

I am partipating in a St. Baldrick's event that members of our fire department organized on March 28, 2009. After that, I am planning on shaving for a while to see if the bald look suits me. Any adivce?

Meanwhile, if you want, you can contribute to the St. Baldrick's Foundation which is a major supporter of research to conquer kids' cancer. If you are interested, please donate by clicking the following link, and then click on my picture: http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/shavee_info.php?ParticipantKey=2009-344168

Thanks, and I'll update you on the progress of my "Staying Bald Experiment."

I would like to send a HUGE and sincere thank-you to kflatfoot for a most generous gift donation to our fire department's St. Baldrick's event. This "shave-fest" will take place Saturday March 28th at 10:00 a.m.

I am getting psyched at the thought of joining the Brotherhood by shedding my locks. Anyone wishing to contribute or simply check up on our progress can log onto the following site: http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/shavee_info.php?ParticipantKey=2009-344168

If I can figure how to post pictures on this site, I will upload a few shots of the festivities and share them with you guys (can anyone help me here?). Otherwise, I think I can post some "after" shots on the St. Baldrick's site, and reference the link in this discussion board.

Again thanks, kflatfoot for your donation, and thank-you everyone on this site for your moral support. March 28th will be a great day for me: I will get a chance to help with kids' cancer research, and I'll get a great new bald look at the same time.

I just checked out the link - It's very easy to donate for anyone who is interested. Looks like Kflatfoot beat me to it (For those who don't already know, he's the Mr. to my Mrs.) ...

Anyway, to post pictures, you just need to use an online service. I use www.tinypic.com You just upload your pics, then cut and paste them on the forum.

I can't wait to see the results!

The deed is done, and I have absolutely no regrets; I am now BALD. At our St. Baldrick's event at the fire department, 13 people became bald in honor of two local kids who are undergoing cancer treatment.

Check out the following pics:

Genuine Brotherhood of Bald People Haircut:

Another Bro. of Bald People Cut:

A firefighter's wife, Mariah, works as a beautician, and she performed the haircutting honors. However, she used a small guard on the clippers, and that left a short stubble (not a true baldie haricut in my estimation). Soooo, when I got home, I got out the clippers, and finnished the job. Then I took a hot shower and went even further wtih the Braun.

My scalp feels really weird right now...kind of a good feeling really. It's like all the nerve endings in my whole head have been asleep, and after the shave they suddenly woke up and started working overtime. Very cool (literally). I celebrated by putting on some tanning oil and scooping snow in my yard for an hour (got to be careful not to burn) Embarassed . Another snowstorm is forcast for tomorrow and Monday (8- to 10-inches), so I have to find my stocking cap SOON! Surprised

Thanks, kflatfoot, for the generous contribution in my name. Together, the 13 shavees have so far raised over $2,800, and there are a number of checks and additinional contributions still to be included. I am hoping that we'll surpass $5,000, and I think we can do it. It is still not too late to donate, and if you wish, just click on the following link, and then click on my picture: http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/shavee_info.php?ParticipantKey=2009-344168

Thanks everyone, for welcoming me to your fold. I intend to be an active member. Cheers....Brian

Congratulations!

Yes, the sensations after first headshaving do feel a bit odd - the feel of a pillow, woolly hats and the wind etc. Enjoy.

Brian,

Any super short buzzed/bald hairstyle would suit you well. Have fun finding the sweet spot and enjoy.

Also congratulations on participating in a very worthwhile charity. You are to be commended.

All the best,

Ken C

We are already starting to talk about making it bigger and better next year. One of our "shavees" is a deputy sherrif. We talked with him about the possibility of having a three-way challenge with the fire department, police department, and sheriff's department.

Also, there is an annual children's festival that takes place in March, and a whole bunch of people attend this event. We are thinking about conducting the shaving activites at this event to get more widespread participition, exposure, and of course dontations. Sadly, though, that would mean that I would have to let my hair grow in order to have something to cut.
